My project of database utilisation

What is a database ?

Therefore the first thing to understand is “What’s a database?”. A database is an organized collection of data, generally stored and accessed electronically from a computer system. With the databases we can store data in a structured and less redundant way.
A database can be local in others words usable on a machine by one user, or shared in others words les information are stocked on distant machines reachable by a network.
In many cases, to create and use databases we use SQL but we can also use Firebase.

My project

The situation

In this document I am going to explain how we could use database in a store in order to facilitate the marketing of an enterprise with a lot of different customers that buy a lot of different products.
Indeed, with databases we can select the different information we want to put in regarding customers, orders, products, …

Database can be useful in different cases. Lets take 3 cases

Case 1:

If an enterprise want to sell a specific product like for example a new shaver it will be more effective and less expensive for them if they only target men for their a campaign. So if they are able to select only men among their customers they will be able to send mails and catalog only to them. For that they only have to select the gender "male" inside the database thanks to the program.

Here an example of code to select only men among the customers.

We can also use databases to select only customers with children when we want to sell objects like diapers, strollers and other kids’ things.

Case 2:

With databases, enterprises can also select the customers that didn’t purchases things from their stores since a specific length of time in order to send them either an alerte or either an offer in order to encourage them to go back to the store and purchase something. If the stores put in their datatbase the articles customers bought with categories like for example shavers, cooking, sport, etc. they can advertise people with effctive advertisement.

Case 3:

The last example is related to the date of purchase. The date of purchase is important for two things. Firstly, if somebody buys something every year approximatively at the same date it could be good for the store to know that in order to send them advertisements when they are looking to buy. Secondly, if somebody buys the same article regularly (like for example every three month) the store could send an alert in order to remind him to buy the article before it's finished.

The target

The target of those strategies are the stores but not only the big stores or the malls. This can be even more effective for small stores and companies that doesn't have a lot of money to invest regarding advertisement.

The goals

The objectives of this is to increase the benefits of the stores by increasing the sells. Indeed, a good advertisement is really necessary to sell a lot of products and by targeting the customers the stores will sell more than by targeting everybody in the same way. This article shows that the publicity have good impact on the sales. I think that everybody has at least once in his life delated an advertising e-mail because of the amount of e-mails we received everyday. By targeting the right customers, all the customers will received less e-mails and will probably be more willing to read all their e-mails. In the end there are more chances that the customers will see the advertisment and will buy the things they are targeted for.

Conclusion

Databases are a good things to improve the efficacity of the stores ans eaven to developp them. I talked about the use of databases regarding customers but the stores could also use them for the articles they sold in order to see what article is very popular and what article is not and also to see the periods of the year when these articles are popular or not.
